Arthouse film screening in Nicosia, Cyprus Ordet (1955) at Pantheon Theatre. Part of the Memory program. Sunday evening cinema.
In collaboration with STYX Film Encounters and Pantheon Theatre, the film series Memory: What is it good for? continues with another Sunday evening screening dedicated to cinema, reflection, and collective viewing. Ordet (1955), directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, examines faith as an existential force rather than a religious doctrine. Set within a rural Danish family, the film explores the collision of rational belief, rigid orthodoxy, and radical conviction through stark visuals and deliberate pacing. Dreyer strips away sentimentality, confronting the viewer with belief in its most absolute and unsettling form. Ordet asks whether miracles belong to religion or to love and whether belief without doubt is devotion or madness. Its spiritual intensity and quiet power continue to resonate decades after its release.
