About the Event

Psoy Korolenko for the first time in Limassol with the program “And All That Stuff” On November 27, Psoy Korolenko will perform in Limassol for the first time, presenting a program that includes mostly songs written in recent years. As always, it’s a mix of original songs, translations, songs based on the works of other authors, covers, and remakes in several languages. Of course, there will also be some well-known favorites. Psoy Korolenko (real name Pavel Lion) is a poet-chansonnier, musician, journalist, actor, lecturer, and performance artist. At the same time, he is a wandering scholar and internet hero. He has created a unique genre of song cabaret, combining elements of klezmer, Jewish folk and theatrical music, French chanson, and Russian bard tradition. He describes himself as a “youth philologist, akyn, body-singer, and modern skomorokh.” He performs and writes in Yiddish, English, Russian, and French, often mixing languages within a single piece. His repertoire includes not only original songs but also unusual covers and translations. In addition to his solo career, he has released collaborative albums and regularly performs with groups such as Oy Division (Tel Aviv), Opa! (St. Petersburg), and with artists like Daniel Kahn (Detroit–Berlin), Michael Alpert (New York), Igor Krutogolov (Tel Aviv), Alena Arenkova (St. Petersburg), and many others. Despite his academic background, Psoy Korolenko’s performances are far from dry or intellectual. With the skill of a juggler, he plays with familiar meanings, words, genres, rhythms, and languages. Watching this process is both captivating and joyful and no two of his concerts, even with the same setlist, are ever the same.
